I came back yesterday from Savannah, Georgia ...

I came back yesterday from Savannah, Georgia ...
... and look what I found there, and brought back with me.

A new bracelet:

  • Ceramic round star-flower bead by RoundRabbit.
  • Wood, glass, copper and silvery beads knotted on pale blue waxed cotton cord.

But in fact, no, I have never been to Savannah, Georgia for real. This is only how I imagine that it feels to be there. To walk under those very special trees with the spanish moss hanging from them. To pass  the old houses with their front gardens. We are in the south, so lots of sunlight bleaches any strong colors. A general atmosphere of older, past times. A very interesting place that I would love to visit one day.

Of course my imagination is strongly colored by the book "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" by John Berendt. The book way much more than the film. Even visually from my inner visions. The book is always so much better than any film in my opinion. I did like the film too. But the book is sooooo much richer. It must be around 15-17 years since I read it. It's about time I do it again. I'd like to listen to it as an audiobook in English, so if anyone knows of a good reading, please let me know.

It's funny how a design of a bracelet can take you on such a journey. Totally unexpected for me. Very pleasant though. It only came about as I was going to name the piece for the Etsy listing, ($49).

All my best,
Malin

I have been to Savannah - and honestly, any one of those photos there could have been taken in New Orleans / LA in general. Funny, I take that for granted and treasure the inch of snow we get every 5 years or more. And you've had all the snow you can handle in a lifetime, no doubt.

I do realize how beautiful the giant mossy oaks are. We have the most beautiful park here with many such trees.

I haven't read that book, but did enjoy the movie (as it was my introduction to Jude Law, and whoa. Jude Law.).

Lovely bracelet, BTW!

Hi Malin,
I live in Atlanta Georgia and have spent many weekends and vacations in Savannah. It is a magical place with so much interesting history. I think the book does a great job of showing the quirky side of Savannah. It is such a lovely city, I hope someday you will get the chance to visit. I think March is the best time to plan a visit because there is a wonderful two day home tour letting you see the beautiful homes inside and out. Your bracelet is lovely, thanks for sharing.
Cheers!

Malin - when you said you just got back I was like when? All three of my children have gone to school in Savannah, Ga and my daughter is currently in her senior year as a fashion major in the Savannah College of Art and Design. I have been to Savannah many, many times and did just get back two weeks ago as we took our daughter back to school. I think you nailed the mood and the pictures you have are pretty real - I'll have to find some of my pictures on facebook that I have of Savannah and share with you. I am not sure when I started following your blog - I think I found you through Lorelei but I have been following you for awhile and I enjoy very much your blog. My husband's mother was from Sweden - she came to the US when she was 6 years old with her older brother. We have some of her postcards from her family in Sweden and I have been tempted several times to see if you could translate. They are in Swedish. Love your jewelry style. The book and movie are both great. The cemetery is very neat also. I'll see what I can find in my pictures. You should visit one day - it is a beautiful city.
