Malin's Bracelet Craze of July 2014

Bracelets are just pouring out of me. For the last few days I can't stop making them. I am having so much fun. They are all basically following the same design concept, seemingly simple, but which I still can vary in endless variations. Two complementing kinds of beads sitting on each side of one art bead. Strung on either waxed linen or Griffin silk cord, and with a simple hook or swirl clasp.

It's all about the proportions and the combination of colors, shapes and textures. And that's what I have always loved about designing anyway. All the parts aiming to enhance each other and still creating a beautiful unity. It's the essence of my design/art philosophy! It doesn't matter weather I am painting a painting, sculpting, designing a graphic profile or making jewelry. I have had the same approach since ever. Kind of investigating and researching what happens if I try this, or that. And that is why it is so much fun for me. A never ending journey on which I keep discovering new things all the time. May my life never end giving me new thrills of all kinds. Some of my earliest childhood memories are to do with me playing with, and discovering things about colors and form. It's in my blood. It's my passion.

Forest green ceramic round by Karen Totten.

Raku ceramic square by Jubilee.

Orange with brown Erudite facetted polymer clay bead by Barbara Bechtel of Second Surf.

NOW:
What is YOUR design philosophy? Are you even aware of if you have one? What is it you are investigating/researching when you are designing? In what lies the thrill for you? Please write a comment! I would love to hear all about it.

All my best,
Malin

Beautiful bracelets! I love designs and they seem perfect for summer.

As for your question about our own designs I really just start with searching through my bead boxes and go from there. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't

How do you go about purchasing beads from Barbara? I searched for a website but had no luck. Her blog did not have much info either.

Always beautiful bracelets Malin! As you said, combining colors, shapes and textures which you master perfectly . I do agree with you, I would add combining techniques also because until now I have not been able to choose a favorite so I' m trying to combine them! But what is certain is that I have a lot of creating to do to find my own voice/philosophy.

Love the bracelets. Perfect for stacking. And you know I am always smitten with your color combos. As for your question, that is a loaded one! I would say that my philosophy is more of a feeling. I let the beads lead me where they may. I always try to tell a story with what I am making. I prefer making designs that are deceptively simple in construction but have a more complex appearance. Something that will get your eye roving and your mind moving, if you will. I don't do anything that is a technique all my own, but I am more of a dabbler in all kinds of jewelry construction and techniques. Color is my Muse and I love to find combinations that feel fresh and alive. Truly, I am still seeking my own distinct style, as I believe that I have a body of work that looks like it could have been created by a troupe of circus monkeys sometimes! Thank you for getting us to think! I always enjoy coming here. Enjoy the day. Erin

I used to hate making bracelets but lately that seems to be what comes pouring out of me. They are little works of art that the wearer can see and play with.
