My studio!

Lately I have seen a lot of people on the beading blogs showing their studios. Thought I would show you mine. It is still in need of some changes and work. For instance there will be a new table going from wall to wall. And there shall be better general lighting. But check out the new "Ott-Lite-type-lamp" I got yesterday! It is great! Photo further down.
There has also been some talk about ways of storing your beads. I am rather happy with the system I have. I keep the beads in small transparent plastic cups meant for "snaps" (=shots of flavoured vodka). And then I put the cups on trays of acrylic transparent plastic. The trays have handles so they are easy to move. And you can also stack them on each other. It is a very versatile (one of my favourite words lately ...) system. I can move cups in and out of the trays just as I please and depending on what I need at the moment. I sort my beads after shape and material more than colour because I think it is easier to quickly spot a colour rather than a form among other beads when you are on the hunt. I did try once to sort from colours, but didn't like it at all.

P.S.
I will get back and write about the awesome Bead Soup Party soon. I want to check through everyones posts again. And also write some more comments.

What if they tip over? I'm such a klutz that I'm forced to consider this hideous possibility...otherwise, a fabulous, delicious space!

Claire, they DO tip over sometimes. Well, I just pick up the beads and put them back in. But it is not tooo often it happens luckily enough. The beads in them kind of weighs them down, if you understand how I mean. If it would be seed beads spilled I use one of those triangular little bead things to scoop them up with. I am also a klutz (learned a new word there, sounds german, it is similar to the swedish "kluns" or "klumpeduns").

'Klutz' is a yiddish word, I believe, so yes, has a lot of german roots...it gets used a lot in this household, believe me. There's me, and the 13 old girl who has grown 10 cm in 7 months...between the 2 of us we can fling a lot of beads! 'schmutz' is another good yiddish word - exactly describes what's left on dishes when not washed properly! We love words here, the kids go to school in French and the adults struggle to learn it!

Schmutz = smuts in swedish. We are also a word loving family! And I grew 10cm 3 years in a row from 12-15 years. I am tall.

Your studio is great, Malin. And I love that shelf. If you let this one go, how great must the next one be:-)

Oh, it is a super tiny room. 2,40 by 2,60 meters.

And this is when my superhandy app on my iPhone comes in handy.
It is called MultiConvert! A must when you are married to an Englishman.

7ft 10in by 8ft 6in
2,6 by 2,8 yards

Wow, thank so much for sharing these pics with us - I am so nosy, I love to see inside other folks' houses and beading rooms especially! I have a beading table at the moment - which is too covered in beads for me to work on! - but we are hopefully moving in the next month or so and I have great plans for my beading area in the new flat! It's good to see how others do it.

How lucky you are to have a room only for beading. A dream for me that I hope one day will come true. Even a cabinet would be great. Thanks for those pictures. It gives me lots of ideas to store my little mess !
