My Own Bangle From Rebecca's Tutorial On ABS

Yesterday Rebecca Anderson gave us a tutorial on Art Bead Scene. For a bangle bracelet including art beads and using the Vintaj hoop as a base. I have since a while admired this design of Rebeccas, AND I have played around a few times trying to create something useful with the hoops I have in my own stash. I never was pleased enough however, always took apart what I made.

So yesterday I thought, I must give this style a go. Now that I have a great tutorial to use. Check out Rebecca's tutorial here.

I followed Rebecca's advice to start off with finding the main art bead. And I chose Claire Maunsell of StillPointWork's large hollow polymer clay bead. It's irregular, mystical and wonderfully beautiful. There's something about Claire's work that always makes me feel like the things could have been found in an obscure and not yet discovered place in nature. Or like they are reminescents from way back in time. Long before the dinosaurs even. When the earth was forming different materials and structures. I have noticed that I have a particular weakness for components with that feel in general. There is more of that style in my stash.

Anyway, after the focal it was time to pick the other parts, for the dangles/charms. The focal gave me the overall color scheme, which I stuck to, just adding a few dashes of color here and there.

Here's my result:

Looks neat ey!? Sort of Christmassy. Or just wintery.

BTW - recent arrivals AND a question to you

Vaseline Beads and Cornerless Cubes from the BeadChest. I won a voucher to be used in their shop over at Claire Maunsell's blog some months ago. (The Next Bend/StillPointWorks). I have not been able to choose which beads in their shop to go for until now. There are a lot of lovelies there I tell you. I am happy with my pick.

A pair of Tronex Round nose pliers. I am planning to update my tools gradually over the coming period. One new tool a month is my idea. I am not good at all with good quality tools. So far that is. It is gonna be a big change there I tell you. I need the good stuff. I wonder if it is gonna do anything to how my jewelry making evolves from now on?

You saw Rebecca Anderson's, SongBead, all lovely tools just casually thrown in her bag? If not you have to go and check out her wonderful vlog immediately. Well worth seeing for a lot of reasons.

What more? Grey Griffon Silk of a thicker kind, hopefully perfect for a project which been waiting in a muffin form for a while now, waiting for the right silk. Some cute green czech glass flowers. Oh how I love those.

From Barbara Bechtel, Floridity, a good bunch of goodies. She's gone wild lately with all her new awesome designs that I can't resist. I can hardly go visit her shop anymore. The Erudite line and lots of other stuff too. I could get everything from her shop really. Pretty pretty pretty!

Now:

A question to all you beaders out there. On your round nose pliers, do the jaws come together completely when they are closed, or is there a little gap/space there. If so, is it even all the way or is it growing gradually towards the back of the jaws? Hope you understand what I mean! If you have experience of using differently designed pliers in that aspect, what kind do you prefer, and why? Please feel free to also leave any thoughts on the subject of round nose pliers.

Bead Table Tuesday + Face Down Tuesday

I told you in the comments of yesterday's post that I last night had started on a necklace with Claire Maunsell's (StillPointWorks) polymer clay beads. Here it is, still under construction. The wonderful chain in oxidized brass I got from Birgitta Lejonklou. There is also black matte glass rounds. It will end up a looong necklace without a clasp.

Face-Down Tuesday with me and my daughter Arabella. I have a temperature ... again :-( so what you see is me using the ear-thermometer. It wasn't all that easy using it face down to be honest. 38,4° Celsius on that particular meassurement.

Arabella wanted to join in with her cuddly toys Iananan (the teddy) and Lisa (the sheep).

The story behind Iananan's somewhat odd name is that when Conrad was born he and we got many cuddly toys, so to help us keep track of who had given which teddy we named each one after the giver. That really big teddy was given by Ian, Marks step brother in England, when Conrad was about one years old. But Conrad just couldn't manage to say his name properly ... So that's the name that stuck in the end.

I plan to keep these lessons super short each and every one of them. Preferably under one minute, and never more than two minutes.

Wishful Wednesdays #1

Hi,

I thought I would start with another regular post here on my blog. It shall be called "Wishful Wednesdays". Guess what it will be about! Yes, you guessed right. I will tell you about things I wish for. Meaning I really like them in some way or other. They could be expensive or cheap. They could be beads, or books, or any other thing really. I might get them one day, or they might be something I probably would never get around to purchase. But I can dream! Beautiful and exciting things always kind of cheer me up. And I wanna share that feeling with you.

I should say thank you to Jade Scott really. On her blog she posts every now and then her "Five Faves" from Etsy. Very inspiring to look at. Makes me very happy. So I thought I'd do something similar. Thank you so much Jade!

Wishful Wednesdays #1

These beads are made by Claire Maunsell of StillPointWorks and the blog the Next Bend. She wrote this wonderful post telling us about the process to come up with this design. Very nice to read. And those beads I just love! So special, organic and like object you could find in nature. Just beautiful shapes and colours. Really has my fantasy going.

Say Hello to Amaguq! He was all handmade by Harem6 from Romania/Germany. From their own clay formula and with pencil drawings on. They do jewellery too and dolls, apart from art pieces. All their things are so utterly special and unique! Like they come from another universe. I get a strong Eastern European feeling, being reminded of animated films I saw in my childhood.

This Krinkle Chain from Ornamentea keeps saying "buy me buy me buy me buy me" to me. So what am I supposed to do? I guess I will end up buying it soonish.

It's something about unevenly facetted gemstones. I am sooooo attracted to them. These Golden Pyrite Rough Nuggets is sold by Lima Beads. Yummie Yummie!
